To further support and give impetus to ongoing media reforms and media development processes, and consistent with developmental best practices on aid effectiveness, the Myanmar Media Development Thematic Working Group (MMDTWG) has been established. The MMDTWG is a coordinative body for media development activities. It includes at least 25 national and international development partners including national media organizations, ethnic media groups, professional journalists' associations, and development partners. It is co-chaired by the MoI and UNESCO.
The MMDTWG will facilitate capacity development and institutional strengthening in the media sector. Participation to the MMDTWG by interested national and international media stakeholders is purely on a voluntary basis. The MMDTWG is also co-convener of the 2nd Conference on Media Development in Myanmar, and a sub-group (comprised of MoI, UNESCO, IMS, BBC Media Action, LIFT, and the Myanmar Journalist Association) has assisted in developing the agenda for this year's conference.
